"My people do not exist, banished from memory at the gates of the camps."

Les Juifs De Salonique is the story of the Jews of Salonica and their life and times up until the deportation to the death camps in 1943. We view this story through the lens of other stories, exploring as we go the representaion of The Jew in literature, and particular in Greek popular culture - in the Karaghiozis Puppet Theatre. The show is performed entirely in English.

Written by Ed Emery and Richard Fredman in conjunction with the cast, Les Juifs De Salonique was given its first performance at the National Theatre in August 2001. It is simultaneously funny and moving, a rich theatrical event blurring boundaries, blending styles and never stopping still.

"You will be moved to laugh and cry at this fabulous piece."

(Simon Godwin, Associate Director, Northampton Theatres)
